KALAMAZOO CHILDREN’S ALLIANCE
Leading the battle against child abuse
and neglect in Kalamazoo county
OUR MISSION
The mission of the Kalamazoo Children’s Alliance is to prevent child abuse and neglect by empowering the community and supporting families through advocacy, outreach, and education.
At KCA, we believe that knowledge is power in preventing abuse which is why education is our central focus. Whether you need an advocate or want to become one, the Kalamazoo Children’s Alliance can help you take a stand against child abuse and neglect because now matters.
A RESOURCE FOR ALL
The Kalamazoo Children’s Alliance is Kalamazoo County’s leading resource in the battle against child abuse and neglect. We aim to promote the resources that further safety for all children as abuse and neglect is not limited to any race, religion, or socioeconomic class.
KCA offers community members the opportunity to join the fight by educating themselves and children on how to recognize and report abuse, prevent abuse before it happens, and identify “tricky people” from “safe people”.
ABUSE HAS LASTING IMPACTS
From providing knowledge on how to report suspected cases to legal assistance, the Kalamazoo Children’s Alliance can be your lifeline to preventing future abuse.
Whether it’s an isolated incident or a prolonged history of behavior, child abuse and neglect can have deep and long-term impacts on its victims:
-
Nearly 80% of victims develop psychiatric disorders such as depression, eating disorders, and PTSD.
-
Child abuse survivors are almost four times more likely to become drug addicts or alcoholics.
-
36% of women and 14% of men in prison were abused as children.
